Lou joined Marina as CEO in August, 2009 with 16 years of experience in high growth health care and health care services companies. Prior to joining Marina, Lou spent eight years as President and CEO of Quality Systems, Inc. (NASDQ:QSII), a publicly traded, health care information technology company. During his tenure, Quality Systems grew from $30 million in revenue to $250 million, and the market capitalization of the company increased from $42 million to $1.2 billion. Among a host of awards, Forbes Magazine recognized Quality Systems as one of its 200 Best Small Companies during each of his 8 years with the company. Prior to joining Quality Systems, Lou was the COO of CorVel Corporation, a national, publicly traded, worker’s compensation managed care services company. CorVel Corporation was named to the Forbes 200 Best Small Companies list during each year of Lou’s seven year tenure with the company. Lou holds an MBA from Harvard Business School and a BA from Amherst College.
Andrew brings 16 years of accounting, finance and operational experience to Marina. His experience includes positions in healthcare and high tech industries, as well as both public and private companies with a large range of net capital value.
In addition to his work at Marina, Andrew is a published author, and also serves as Lead Auditor for the non-profit organization Parkinson’s Patient Support Group. Andrew holds an MBA from California State University, Fullerton and a BS in Finance from Santa Clara University.
Mark has a distinguished professional career in healthcare services. For more than 20 years, he has worked with physicians and hospital administration to improve the IT and business solutions that support their practices. As a client advocate, Mark builds lasting relationships to educate and promote quality solutions, while continuously pursuing customer-driven enhancements.
Greer oversees all coding and physician documentation education programs for Marina, and serves on Marina’s Compliance Committee providing oversight of coding and regulatory compliance. In addition to Greer’s coding and compliance responsibilities, she is active in ACEP’s National Coding & Nomenclature Advisory Committee, as well as the California ACEP Reimbursement Committee. Greer also serves on the T-system Leadership Advisory Board and the Editorial Advisory Board for “ED Coding Alert”. With 17 years’ of healthcare and coding experience, Greer is a published author and speaker, advocating improved documentation and coding practices to drive compliance and accurate physician reimbursement.
Dr. Geoffrey Renk is the President of Charleston Emergency Services, Medical Director at Bon Secours St. Francis Emergency Department in Charleston, South Carolina, and serves as Marina’s Medical Director, providing clinical insight for coding, process development, and legislative advocacy. Dr. Renk is Board Certified, American Board of Emergency Medicine and has served as an emergency physician for 24 years and Medical Director for more than 10 years.
In addition to his emergency medical practice and role at Marina, Dr. Renk serves on a number of hospital committees and industry organizations, both regionally and nationally. He has received degrees from Boston College and Rutgers University, and received his M.D. and Ph.D. from Medical University of South Carolina. He completed his residency in Emergency Medicine at King Drew Medical Center in Los Angeles, California.
As Marina’s Director of Legal Services, Jay supports clients with commercial contract negotiations, network participation analysis, and reimbursement disputes. Jay also chairs Marina’s Compliance Committee, overseeing Marina’s Compliance Program which includes HIPAA and HITECH Acts, and other regulatory guidance.
Jay comes to Marina with nearly 10 years of litigation, corporate counsel, and government relations experience with a healthcare focus. He is an active member of the State Bar of California, as well as the American Bar Association, and the American Health Lawyers Association. As an advocate for fair reimbursement practices, Jay has served as a Board Member for the Emergency Department Practice Management Association (EDPMA), Chairman for Cal ACEP’s Billing Task Force, and Subcommittee Co-Chair for the Emergency Medicine Oversight Committee (EMSA Fund).
As Director of IT, Eric oversees all Information Technology operations for Marina. He works with each client to ensure the smooth and efficient transfer of chart data, and actively pursues new solutions to benefit and support our clients’ emergency department practices.
Eric brings with him 18 years’ experience working in Information Technology for healthcare organizations. Eric specializes in infrastructure development and stability and is distinctly familiar with the unique challenges of healthcare billing. He has built and managed systems that support the financial functions of medical providers, physician groups, DME suppliers, and hospitals nationwide.
Each of Marina’s Dedicated Client Services Teams reports to one of our experienced Directors of Operations. Our Directors are thoroughly trained in Marina’s operations and are responsible for ensuring claims management protocols are efficient, yield maximum collection of receivables, and adhere to compliance policies. Each Director is an integral part of our leadership team driving the development of new service and services levels for our clients.
Marina’s Directors have an average tenure at Marina of more than 15 years, and an average history in medical billing of more than 19 years.
Marina’s Board of Directors is comprised of Lou Silverman our CEO, Michael Connellan (our former CEO and current Chairman of the Board) and Marsha Besley (our Founder). Lou, Mike and Marsha are joined on our board by Gene Burleson (an experienced health care executive) and Jon Isaacson, Eugene Krichevsky, and Sean Reid from American Capital – an investor in our company.
